We think fungi deserve a little more applause.

jupiterskywellness.info started with a simple feeling: the first time you see a flamingo-pink oyster mushroom, or a tiny cup full of silver eggs on a twig, it is hard not to say “wow”. We built this site to bottle that feeling.

It is an animated field guide to fifteen of the most unusual fungi on Earth. Each one is painted in a storybook style and explained in plain language: what it looks like, where it lives, how it spreads its spores and how people have enjoyed it.

What we include

We choose species that are spectacular to look at and fun to learn about. Some are famous in the kitchen, some are better admired with a camera. None of them is here for shock value. We want curious kids, nature lovers, artists and home cooks to feel welcome.

What we are not

We are not a foraging manual and we never tell anyone to eat something they found in the wild. Mushroom identification takes training, local knowledge and, often, a microscope. If you want to go further, join a local mycological society: they run walks, workshops and identification tables, and they are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.

The illustrations

Every specimen on this site was illustrated especially for jupiterskywellness.info, with an eye on the features that really matter: the spines of a lion’s mane, the lace skirt of the veiled lady, the blunt ridges of a blue chanterelle.
